Do you know the largest killer of girls ages 15-18? Childbirth. - TopicsExpress

Do you know the largest killer of girls ages 15-18? Childbirth. This year 14 million girls under the age of 18, many as young as 12, will marry. Sixty-six million school age girls do not attend school, and most of them can neither read nor write. These are problems highlighted in the award winning documentary, Girl Rising. I read the notice somewhere on fb, but do not know how to find it again. I do know though, this is an inspiring movie. I streamed it from Amazon last night for $4.00 and give it 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, and all the other accolades. The stories are of individual girls from Nepal, Haiti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Peru, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, and 2 other countries which I forgot to note. The nine stories are narrated by Meryl Streep, Liam Neeson, Anne Hathaway, and other actors from the girls countries. I challenge you to watch this in celebration of Womens History Month. Danielle Turner Stoddard, I thought of all your work as I watched it. It would be a worthy addition to your curriculum materials, and for you, too, Angie Bailey. Martie Young it also highlights the importance of math and science learning; and the story from Peru beautifully illuminates our need for the poetic. Ironic, but Idaho Education laws which allow parents to do most anything with their children and call it home schooling would be perfectly compatible with the practices in some of these countries.
