Do you love God and is He your friend? Today the words “god” and “friend” are thrown around to the point where the mean very little anymore. People are afraid to go in deep because of the commitment and potential for hurt. To really understand what it means to be a friend and to know our Lord and Savior takes what very few people will hearken to…obedience. In today’s society if you are obedient you are looked down upon as a conformist or even as a weak individual when really its quite the opposite. It takes incredible character and strength to be obedient. God rewards this character trait by calling us His friends if we can be obedient to Him. He knows its hard, that is why the reward is so great. To be a friend of God means you do whatever he says (John 15:10 & John 15:14) Jesus has poured truth into us. He has given us His entire self so that we may know truth and literally be His friend. A true friend does not hold secrets back or play games. This is why Jesus states that He reveals to us the purposes of His desire so that we may be informed of His plans for His kingdom and our lives. Communication is vital to trust and effectiveness. Its crucial to working together and building people up. When the information flow is absent, suspicions arise and trust falters. Relationships fail. So we have a challenge in our faith. Show our love of Jesus by doing what He says and when it comes to our own friends: be open and honest, sharing the things of our heart building up trust and love. The beautiful thing is that we, ourselves, are not left to doing this task, which are often times difficult. God has given us His power to overcome the things that can be hard by placing His Holy Spirit inside of us. Praise to Jesus for giving us a Helper and Great Counselor so that we may be able to carry through with being great friends to Him and each other!
