Do you want to experience the #Thailand Bliss in an magical and paradisiac place? If you find yourself around Bangkok or even Phuket, you must take a small diversion and hop across to the Thai Island of Koh Samui, much smaller than Phuket but absolutely packed with charm, you will realize on arrival at the airport when you are transported from your plane to the open sided arrivals hall, by a small child like train, this epitomizes the experience you are about to enjoy. The island is home to all of the major hotel companies, Four Seasons, hotel W, Marriott, Six Senses, most of these are based in resorts that are designed for you to check in and never leave, and can be remote in their locations. This is an Island to explore, you can literally cycle around the whole area if you wish or hire a great fun open top Suzuki jeep, and really take a good look. Chaweng is the main town, its very commercialized and at night it shows the seedier side of Thai tourism, that said it offers a fabulous beach, and there are are some gems to enjoy, The Library being one of the nicer establishments, you can also enjoy a relaxing ( normal) massage right there next to your beach towel. If you want something nicer than neon lights and want to feel a real Thai vibe, then Choeng Mon is the place for you, beautiful beach with lots of great food outlets, there is a guy who makes corn on the cob, on the beach, its infamous, you really should give it a go. For a bit more sophistication, chill at La Sala, a fabulous hotel, beach bar and restaurant, which serves the best fish and chips you will taste anywhere, the bar has a fantastically dangerous cocktail menu, and the restaurant offers incredibly innovative Thai food, directly at the waters edge and very romantically at night under the stars. On the high street ! Is the best restaurant on the Island, Krua Thai, from the outside very insignificant, but I guarantee you, the food is amazing, the cost ridiculous, and I would place a wager you will go back more than once. Ko Samui has two of the highest golf courses in the world, one Santurburi Golf and Country club, an 18 hole championship course, where you are obligated to hire a caddie, these are charming Ladies, wearing fabulous pink safari suits, there golf knowledge is also excellent, it took my caddy less than 2 shots to appreciate how bad I was. The second one being Bophut Hills is the most mountainous and spectacular course around the Andaman Sea, its really a glorified par 3, but its topography makes it a must to play, and take your camera. Driving through the mountains in the centre of the Island, will introduce you to some of the original Island families houses, where you can enjoy some interesting food options. There are so many beachs to enjoy, you can find the most remote and private, or take a drive along the west coast and stop anywhere, enjoy a chilled Singha beer or two and wait for a beautiful sunset. Around the time of the full moon you may notice a lot of younger travelers, these are all passing through the Island heading for the famous full moon parties on Koh Pangan, there are also several boat trips available to enjoy. One place we recommend is Fishermans village in Bophut, especially for the Friday night market, you will eat wonderful food and drink several Mai thais, buy some lovely local crafts, check out the hammock shop, enjoy some unique entertainment, on the streets and in the bars, and when you leave your wallet will be smiling at you for literally giving it the night off. Koh Samui, is an Island that combines the beauty and charm of all things Thai, give it a visit, you wont be sorry you made the trip.
