©DocTip~~No Substitute for Honor There was a time when a man’s word mattered. It was his bond. There was a time when men and women were admired for their hard work and accomplishments. Earning something honestly gave a person a sense of honor and respect from peers. It would be nice if we could earn degrees for life’s service, then everyone could have a PhD. It would be nice if we could choose our medals, then great Moms and Dads would be highly decorated. Surely, most ministers would deem themselves great Apostles; even taking credit for the virgin birth, if that were possible. The truth is just that; the truth. There is little room for equivocation. There is much more admiration for someone who can stand on honest merit for the little they have accomplished in their life, than for those self-promoting, competitive people, who feel they must embellish their record. We read of a famous Navy Admiral, Jeremy Michael Boorda, who served as the Chief of Naval Operations in the 1990s. A news outlet was about to release a story on how he embellished his combat record and decorations. He served in the highest positions in the U.S. Navy, yet that was not enough. So distraught by his loss of honor, Admiral Boorda committed suicide. Psalm 75:7 tells us, “But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another.” As a diamond grader from the Gemological Institute of America, I was trained to discern the real diamonds from the fake. As diamond graders, we knew a day would come when the fakes would be very difficult to separate from the genuine diamonds; those which were forged in fire and carbon, withstanding the intense conditions under the earth’s surface for billions of years. It is time to take honor back and give it to those who merit it. If you have boasted about something you really didn’t do or earn, then repent and ask God to honor you for your own accomplishments. Ask God to validate you and provide you the opportunity to shine honestly. There will be a test in life. Those who did not earn their medals, degrees, recognition, will not pass through the fire of testing and will ultimately face their own humiliation. Manufactured honor is not worth the piece of paper it is written on, or the metal it is engraved on. Fraud is lying. Be yourself! Be the best you can be where you are. Be true to yourself and to others. Honor is like a diamond, it’s “unbreakable.” Integrity refers to the strength of the material, and its ability to withstand challenge. Those with little integrity are much like the fake, manmade diamond. At some point, a fake will fail the test. ©DocTrinity~~Not for everyone, always for someone.
