Photos and maps can be viewed and downloaded at flickr/docefire. Fire Facts Location: 7 miles northwest of Prescott in Granite Mountain Wilderness Size: 6,767 acres Percent Contained: 96%. Cause: Human, under investigation Number of Resources: 90 personnel including: 2 hand crews, 6 engines, and 1 helicopter. Note: Resources are being reassigned or released to get ready for future fires. Injuries to Date: 1 (minor eye abrasion) Estimated Cost to Date: $6,966,361 General Announcements: Due to the change in the weather, the wind and or heat may produce interior pockets of vegetation within the fire to burn and be visible. These areas will be addressed and taken care of as they develop. Ashe Whirls are often mistaken for smoke and are created by a whirl wind with cool air pushing down while hot air lifts up carrying ash with it. These can range anywhere from two feet to over a hundred feet tall and can move across roads and other types of terrain. The Prescott National Forest emergency fire closure and Stage II fire restrictions remain in place. Granite Basin Road remains closed to the public and can only be accessed by residents with valid identification and proof of residency. Fire Conditions: All residents should be extremely careful and aware of fire restrictions across the southwest. No fires allowed and smoking is only allowed inside buildings or vehicles. Fire Closure Update: Alto Pit, Dosie Pit, Granite Basin Recreation area, Williamson Valley Trailhead and Almosta Ranch area trails remain closed. Recreation residences managed under permit by the Prescott National Forest remain closed. The closure area map can be viewed at the Prescott National Forest webpage at: fs.usda.gov/prescott. Today’s Activities: Firefighters continued rehabilitation and mop-up efforts. These include waterbar construction, chipping and scattering of brush, as well as clearing the fire line of snags, rotten logs and searching for underground burning roots near the fire line. Firefighters on the fire remain available for initial attack of any new local fires, and are helping with fires started by lightning. ######
