Doctor Who Throwdown! I meant to start this last week, but well get caught up. Every week, I want to compare each of the new era Doctors, episode by episode, to give us a definitive ranking. Week One: Rose vs The Christmas Invasion vs The Eleventh Hour vs Deep Breath. (I am only comparing newer Doctors, because they will have an equal number of episodes). I am ranking in order from worst to best, but we can argue and come up with a consensus. First place episodes get four points, with fourth place episodes getting one, at the end of the season well see which Doctor won. 4. The Christmas Invasion. I think this is the worst of the new Doctor regenerations. Having Tennant in bed for the majority of the episode really kneecapped him, and the alien plot isnt interesting enough to sustain excitement without the Doctor running around. I do like that it set up Torchwood, and the Harriet Jones rivalry, but overall weaker than the others. 3. Deep Breath. I spoke of my issues with this one at length last week- I enjoy the episode overall, just dont find it as strong as the two above it 2. Rose. I think this is really solid, and under-rated because the mannequin effects are poor even by Doctor Who standards. BUT, it does a great job establishing a companion as the viewpoint character, building the mystery and intrigue of the Doctor, and giving Nine a great mixture of fun and danger. 1. Eleventh Hour. Elevens premiere is basically perfect. So, score at the end of week one: Eleventh Doctor: 4 Ninth Doctor: 3 Twelfth Doctor: 2 Tenth Doctor: 1 Argue or agree in the comments! Ill be viewing this weeks episode tomorrow or the day after, then well let the second episodes brawl it out. (Also, if you disagree, keep your own score, and well compare at the end of the season!)
