Doctors Update: So today was our Big Adventure! I will admit the traveling process was much, much easier this time than almost three weeks ago now. On arrival we were taken to x-ray to capture on film how the bone was healing. Next we got to sit down with Dr. Werthammer, the nureosurgeon, (who is wonderful by the way) to discuss Joshs progress. He was very pleased with how the x-ray appeared and said everything was basically the same as when first diagnosed meaning nothing had moved or shifted--PRAISE GOD! He felt good about the direction as far as the healing process was concerned--he continued to stress that it was just going to take TIME. He was also pleased to see how well Joshs mobility and strength had come along. We also got to stump the doctor by showing him the shaking/ twitching moments that Josh randomly has...he looked at us, grinned and said Im not sure what that is. As a physician, Im sure it was hard for him to say he didnt know but to me that shows character and we appreciated his honesty and his willingness to try to help figure it out by ordering an MRI for precautionary measure--we will be scheduled for that very soon. He did find it to be a positive that even during those jelloy moments Josh did not experience any pain or numbness and that to an extent Josh could control it. Our next visit with Dr. Werthammer will be in a month--we cannot rave out the St. Marys staff enough! We concluded the visit at his office with him taking the time to show us the original catscan of the c1. Im no doctor but there is most certainly a clear, cut break--WOW, sort of scary to see first hand, but it was also settling to know where it is and what it looked like. Our day didnt end there...Josh decided while he was out of the house we would finish off our adventure with a trip to visit with both Carrier Jr. and Carrier Sr. to express our gratitude for all they have done and of course talk a little racing with our buddies--oh and I better not forget, Josh was thrilled to get a Steak & Shake Milkshake too! Throughout this whole process, we continue to remain optimistic about Joshs healing. His mom, dad and myself were very content with the update we received today; however tonight Josh has dwelt on the fact that the bones were still basically in the same place. Josh wanted to hear that the bones were already growing back and in superspeed mode. I have had to constantly remind him that we must be PATIENT and allow TIME for the body to heal itself and God to work his magic! We have come along way in 4 weeks and in 4 more Im sure some of our struggles (although never forgotten) will be a distant memory. Although Josh is resting now...I cant wait to share this Bible verse with him in them morning...more reassurance that GOD protects and heals and loves! Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. --Romans 12:12 These 11 simple words pack a lot of power! And as I have said all along your prayers are part of the answers! THANK YOU FOR THE CONTINUED SUPPORT AND BEING PART OF THIS JOURNEY WITH US... (sorry if this makes no sense...super sleepy tonight)...
