January MWPG Meeting Minutes Members attending: Trey Foerster, Judy Johnson, Linda Alfuth, Bob Rosen, Ken Duquane, and Barbara Smith (presiding). Guests: Chuck Julin and Bruce Miller. Dues revisited It was suggested that the dues of $20 per person, $40 for a couple, was hard for couples to meet. The group unanimously agreed to have dues of $25/family/year. Several people paid dues at the meeting. You can either send a $25 check, made out to Mid Wisconsin Photography Group, to me Barbara Smith, 2026 Windsor Ct. #3, Plover WI 54467, or bring a check or cash to the February meeting. As treasurer, Barbara will be setting up a checking account at US Bank in Stevens Point on Highway 10 E. Since he lives in Plover, Bob Rosen has agreed to be the second signature on the account. Snacks It was unanimously agreed that there will be no more snacks at the meeting. People can bring their own, just as we do with drinks. Dan Anderson Speaker Some expressed concern over the cost of $200 for a speaker. We would be using almost all of our dues for this, and there is a general reluctance to use extra money for guest speakers, as a number of the members are retired and living on a fixed income. Trey is willing to research our options for having Dan, including checking out advertising and promotion ideas for opening this up to the public, and getting sponsors for the event. He will report on his progress at the February meeting. CVA Exhibit It was decided to hold off on submitting a proposal until May, because having everything ready by mid February felt too rushed. The jury meets quarterly and so will meet again in May. Trey, Judy, Linda and Barbara will take a research trip to CVA, probably on Friday afternoon, January 23 (I need to check to see if this will work for Rose), to tour the venue and ask a few questions, such as the following: 1. Are metal prints compatible with the hanging system. I will take several metal prints with different hangers to test them. 2. When would the exhibit be if we are accepted? 3. How long will the exhibit last? 4. Who is responsible for hanging and take-down? 5. Will the jury committee accept our photos en masse, or will they pick and choose. (Do we need to send more than the 30–40 pictures suggested?) 6. When does CVA need to know the finished size and format of the pictures? Fine Art America and Facebook There was a general discussion on using Fine Art America as a website. It was agreed that we are not ready for a website at this time. Call for Facebook photos: Please size photos to 600 px on the long size and email them to Trey (three4ster@gmail). Trey is the administrator for our Facebook page, so he is the only one who can upload photos. To see the page, go to then click on the LIKE button to follow our page. Entrance Decoration Challenge Thank you, Trey, for setting up the challenge – much appreciated. There were 9 beautiful images for us to judge, and we did our best, using four stars. Trey collected the challenge sheets and will post the winner on our Facebook page. Everyone participated in giving feedback on the photos, which was a lot of fun and quite educational. February Challenge We didn’t select a challenge for next month. How about winter scenes? (3 images per person?) If anyone has a suggestion, please let us know. Assume winter scenes is the February challenge unless you hear otherwise. Bob Rosen Prints Bob brought in a number of his gorgeous prints to get feedback from the group. They are going to be presented at a show at Gallery Q, in Stevens Point, in March. Beautiful work, Bob! Cheers, Barbara
