Dodds Calls on Sinn Fein to Stop Wallowing in Murder 15th January 2014 DUP Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds has called on the Secretary of State to urge Sinn Fein to stop wallowing in murder. The comments were made at Northern Ireland Questions and followed comments from Martin McGuinness that unionists allowed extremists to hi-jack the Haass proposals. Commenting from Westminster the North Belfast MP said, ‘The comments by Martin McGuinness in relation to “extremism” are seen by many people across the community as not only untrue, but a transparent attempt to distract from Sinn Fein’s abject lack of leadership in relation to addressing their continued glorification of past terrorist crimes as witnessed in Castlederg this summer. Such glorifications cause huge damage to community relations and the Secretary of State must urge Sinn Fein to stop wallowing in murder. It is particularly notable that these comments were made following the meeting of the five party leaders yesterday. We can only presume that this is another ham-fisted attempt by Sinn Fein to either portray some kind of crisis or to de-rail attempts to make further progress. The community wants to see all of the parties sit down and try to make real and genuine progress on those difficult issues which have not been resolved. However we must also recognise the impact that recent decisions have had relating to individuals such as Gerry Kelly who was so closely involved in the glorification of terrorism last year. Whilst the threshold for prosecution was passed in relation to his activities last summer a decision was taken to issue an informed warning for obstructing the police. Such decisions create damage and do not help in the search for progress to be made.’
