Does Butter or Bulletproof Coffee improve your cognitive function and help you achieve ketosis (fat burning mode)? I have been experimenting with it over the last couple of weeks and agree to why it is beneficial to our health. I have been consuming coffee with coconut oil for sometime but didnt realise the amount of energy I would receive from adding and blending the butter to the espresso with coconut oil. Butter coffee is pretty common around the world in places like Tibet but the more healthy fat the better I reckon! To get maximum results from this drink, you really need to be fat adapted meaning your body is using fats as its primary energy source rather than carbohydrates. If you are carbohydrate adapted and you go all out with the coconut oil, you may find yourself in the toilet as your body is amazing at recognising if you are going to utilise the fats consumed or not. When your body is using carbohydrates for energy, it will see no need for the fats consumed and you will get rid of them pronto. Its a good way to test if you are fat adapted or not haha. Benefits of this coffee: Butter is a saturated fat called butyric acid, this has 4 carbon bonds and is easily used by your body for energy if you are fat adapted. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and is rich in vitamins like A, D and K2. This needs to be grass fed quality butter otherwise it will more likely have inflammatory inducing properties and less A and D and no K2 as the animal needs to convert K1 to K2 in the gut from the grasses consumed. The MCT oil from coconut oil stands for medium chain triglyceride and this has powerful cognitive benefits as well as assists in the production of ATP energy which is the energy used in Anaerobic exercise. This will not cause an insulin response and therefore you will not have any spiking in your blood sugar. This means you will maintain a steady stream of kick ass energy throughout your morning while using fats for energy which can help you achieve a state of ketosis.
