Does anybody else feel that the term heathen, is a misunderstood one outside of the community? I ask because when I walked into my local grocer today, the lady working the deli counter and I spoke briefly of faith (she was a devout Christian) and had informed me that she were in need of prayer. Curiously, I had asked her what she were in need of prayer for (so I could know which of the Aesir to speak with). She had told me she lost her husband recently and was in need of a companion so she would not be so lonely. I had informed her that I was not a follower of the Christian faith, but I am a Heathen, or a Pagan if she is unfamiliar with the former. And that I would see to it that Lady Freyja guides her to a companion in order to help with her lonliness. Once I told her this, she seemed to be taken back by the notion, and she immediately seemed defensive but told me thank you in a get away from me, sort of manner, as though I had offended her. Even though I clearly had no harmful intent. What are your thoughts on the use of the word heathen in modern society?
