Does anyone else have such bad veins that when you have to go to the ER it can take a few hours & a few nurses to get the job done? I had to go to the ER in the middle of the night & the dr wouldnt order an IV because he said I am a hard stick. I needed fluids so badly & also the meds work so much better. Needless to say I am still in pain. When I was there 2wks ago after getting the meds IM I got no relief. The dr was so compassionate that he took time to try himself. Turned out he had to go in my neck. Ive had this before & 123 its in. I know this cant be an every time thing because I need to save that vein for desperate emergencies. Talked to my pc the other day about getting a port put in (as it was recommended) & his response was thats ridiculous. Sure, hes not the one getting poked 10x every time an IV is needed. But, seriously there are a few great nurses who have no problem. What were the other nurses doing in class when they were being taught how to do IVs?
