Does anyone remember seeing this before? It belonged to my brother in law David OBrien Class of 1965 It was a type written copy, not a mimeograph or a photocopy. Somebody took the trouble to hand type this. I tried to reproduce it just as it was typed. Im not sure what type of grade they would have gotten for grammar. THE ASSUMPTION MAN The Assumption Man takes care of his school. He makes sure that at all times his school is neat and clean. He avoids marring or defacing desks, walls, chalkboards and any other equipment because he realizes that these things are not his, but that he is using them. He does not wear cleats or heel plates on his shoes because these things could cut the asphalt tile floors. He doesn’t chew gum in the building because he does not want to dispose of the gum in the building. He does not eat ice cream in the building because of the mess caused by drippings and the unsightly appearance caused by dis-carded ice cream wrappers. The Assumption Man is neat in appearance at all times. He disdains wearing blue jeans to school because they are not presentable clothing for social gatherings, while they are in order for work or for rough play. Since Assumption Men come to school to study, not to play, they do not wear play clothes. Therefore, also, he does not wear a T-shirt to class; he wears a shirt with a collar attached. The assumption man does not use any distracting costume or extreme hairdo or haircut because these things are contrary to his purpose of coming to school. He comes to school to study and to learn, not to entertain. The Assumption Man is a cultured man. He uses no foul language, nor profanity, nor vulgarity. He does not loiter in the lavatory. He remembers that both he and his school are dedicated to Our Blessed Mother and that his actions must bespeak this dedication. The Assumption is always conscious of the good name of his school. Therefore as long as he is identified as an assumption man he conducts himself in an exemplary manner: he avoids rowdiness on busses, visiting other schools without authorization, and any other conduct detrimental to the good name of Assumption High School. The Assumption Man realizes that there must be orderly procedures in handling the school business. He brings a written excuse from his parents whenever he has been ab-sent and gets an admit slip before going to class. He follows directions printed on the slip throughout the day. He gets a tardy slip when he enters the school late before go-ing to his classroom. If the Assumption Man has to leave school because of some emergency situation he brings a written request and presents it in the office. He requests early dismissal only in time of emergency. The Assumption Man is Thoughtful. He forsees his needs and takes care of them at the proper times. He purchases school supplies before or after school or during his cafeteria period, but never during school time. He is thoughtful in the cafeteria observing good table manners, helping to keep the cafeteria clean. He puts his used dishes and waste materials in the proper places. If he should have an accident, he cleans up immediately out of consideration for his fellow students. The Assumption Man is a good citizen. He observes the laws of the state, city and the school. He does not stand on the highway to hitchhike, he drives carefully on the highway and does not exceed TEN MILES AN HOUR on school property. He does not smoke around the school until after 4:30 p.m., unless he is a junior or a senior and has his parents’ permission, and then restricts his smoking to the cafeteria period and to the proper place At all times, the Assumption man is a man that the school is justly proud of. He Is careful about the materials of the school, he is neat and courteous, he is a cultured man, he is conscious of his obligations, he is orderly in handling school business, he is thoughtful and considerate of others, he is always a good citizen.
