Does the government really care for PUBLIC SPACES like our parks? - TopicsExpress

Does the government really care for PUBLIC SPACES like our parks? I dont know if you watched the early evening news today as Manila Mayor Erap was interviewed about the construction of the Torre de Manila that is now a photo bomber to the Rizal Monument. It shows how politicians regard both our built heritage and public spaces. No amount of money or tax can ever compensate for the value of a park that is kept open and the monuments left located in their rightful places. Construction of buildings close to these open spaces must be clearly thought about as these may have adverse effects to the built environment. Nothing will ever compensate for the vistas created because of the open-ness of these urban spaces. We had seen the same experience with our public plazas in Albay. Think Penaranda Park, Daraga Park, and a roofed portion of Guinobatan Park. Towns and cities of today MUST have LAWS that would protect these as these are fast becoming the Endangered Spaces of our present urban environment. I pray that something is done before we loose everything.
