Dog walkers in Forest Heath are being asked to help police sniff - TopicsExpress

Dog walkers in Forest Heath are being asked to help police sniff out crime as part of a new ‘Paws on Patrol’ initiative. The scheme, which is being supported by Forest Heath District Council, encourages dog walkers to register with the police and then report any suspicious behaviour they may come across whilst out and about, either by calling the non-emergency 101 number, or 999 if they believe a crime is in progress. There will be four registration days across the district throughout February and March in Newmarket, Brandon, Mildenhall and Red Lodge. As well as being able to sign-up to the scheme, dog owners will have the opportunity to get their dogs microchipped for free courtesy of the Dogs Trust; get a complimentary doggy bag and obtain nutritional advice from representatives of Pets at Home; and also a health check for their pet from a veterinary nurse. All registration days will take place between 11am and 3pm, with the scheme launching in Newmarket on Sunday 2 February at The Severalls Pavilion, Bury Road, CB8 9NE. This will be followed by the Brandon registration on Thursday 13 March at The Royal British Legion, 97 London Road, IP27 0EL. The Mildenhall sign-up will take place on Thursday 20 March at The Jubilee Centre, Recreation Way, IP28 7HS. The final event will be in Red Lodge on Thursday 27 March at The Millennium Centre, Lavender Close, IP28 8TT. Dog walkers are invited to come along on any of the above dates to ask about the ‘Paws on Patrol’ scheme and register if they are interested, as well as taking advantage of the other services that will be available on the day. Anyone who is interested in joining the scheme but is unable to make any of the registration days should contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team in either Newmarket, Mildenhall or Brandon by dialling 101.
