Domaine dOuréa, Gigondas, 2012 August, 2014 92/100 Retailer: Løves bog og Vincafé, 179 kr. As I slowly taste my way through more and more wines from the 2012 vintage from the Rhône valley, I get more confident that this is indeed a fine vintage. Great level of fruit and good freshness. The opulent and intense Gigondas from Domaine dOuréa is a must-try wine for those who like intense Rhône-valley wines. This is archetypical Gigondas with amazing depth and definition. I do not expect the same level of complexity as the neighbourhood wines from Chateauneuf du pape, but instead what I look for is concentration and intensity. This wine blows me away with its blueberry/kirsch liqueur complemented by dried figs, smoke, garrique, charcoal, and even a touch of lavender. On the palate, there is great substance with a wonderfully tannic mouthfeel, an attentive mid-pallate, great acids, and a not too long finish. This is a wine for all the hedonists. I give it my warmest recommendations. Although I understand that many of you dont normally spend 179 kr. on a wine, however, I urge you to buy this wine, and then buy a supermarket Gigondas (e.g. from Kvickly, 99kr.) and simply taste both wines next to each other: There is such a colossal difference, that cannot be justified by the 79 kr of difference. I warn you though, once you try this, you dont wanna go back! Ps. As Ive tasted more and more wines imported by Løves Bog og vincafé, Ive gradually started to really respect the owner for having the talent of picking such great-value wines. Kudos.
