Don L. Uthe Harvard – Don L. Uthe, 70, of Harvard died Friday, July 19, 2013 at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock. He was born February 5, 1943 in Blue Island to Don L. and Adelaide (Lockhart) Uthe. He married Sandra “Sandy” Hamen on May 30, 1964 in Chicago. He owned and operated The Rustic Man Fence Company in Harvard since 1979. Don was a member of the Harvard Moose Lodge, Harvard Chamber of Commerce, Monday Night Golf League for 25 years and was former president of the Harvard Booster Club. He was recently named an Honorary Jaycee Senator for the State of Illinois. Don was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, cooking, smoking fine cigars, attending Green Bay Packer and Iowa Hawkeye games, commiserating with friends and Myrtle Beach golf trips. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Don “The Godfather” aka the “Rustic Man” was a friend to many and will be forgotten by none. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and father-in-law. Survivors include his mother, Adelaide Piper of Naperville; wife, Sandy; two children, Robbin (Brian) Diedrich of McHenry and Craig (Angie) Uthe of Huntley; three grandchildren, Abbey & Emily Uthe and Peyton Diedrich; sister, Sally (Ken) Albert of Downers Grove; brother-in-law, James (Carolyn) Hamen of Chicago; two nieces and three nephews; great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Sandy on January 22, 2007; mother-in-law, Pat Hamen; and step-father, George Piper. An open house will be held from 4 pm until ?? Wednesday, July 24 at Bopp’s Tavern, 103 E. Front St. Harvard with a Celebration of Life Toast at 8 pm. Please, no flowers. For information call the funeral home at 815-943-5400.
