Don McLean song American Pie is about the day February 3rd 1959 when a plane fell out of the sky Buddy Holly JP Richardson the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens all perished in a cornfield this is the day the music died the line in the song good ol boys drinking whiskey and rye singing this will be the day that I die is in reference to thatll be the day that I die Buddy Holly song they were all great entertainers Ritchie Valens was only 17 years old such a tragic loss for rock and roll so Don made a song about it.
