Don Nicholson 1966 Flip Top Mercury Comet Funny Car - Part 2 As - TopicsExpress

Don Nicholson 1966 Flip Top Mercury Comet Funny Car - Part 2 As is usually my habit, I like to Photoshop an image of what the model might look like. Photo #1 I have PSed the top from a 67 Fairlane to the 66 Comet. So far, so good. Photo #2 Ive already disassembled the models, stripped of paint, and have removed, the roof from the Fairlane. With the measurements, I knew that although the same scale, the roof is too wide. This isnt uncommon among diecast models as often the scaling isnt precise. Therefore, the roof would have to be cut in half and a 1/4 inch section removed. In Photo #3 if you look closely you can see the cut line in the roof with the 1/4 inch section already removed. That photo also shows the roof roughly mounted into position. Photo #4 shows what was left of the old Fairlane. Yep, I destroyed a perfectly great model so that I could do this modification. Cutting and narrowing the roof has created another problem. That would mean I could not use the existing windshield. That meant I had to scratch make a windshield. That created a whole set of new problems which Ill discuss in future segments in greater detail.
