Don Steitz Im sick of reading so many posts of people claiming the left is looking to destroy the rich or reward the lazy. People with drive and ambition should always be able to excel...albeit not by over-exploiting others. Its only, and only about assuring all Americans get their minimal human rights. The right to a livable wage, the right to guaranteed access to healthcare, the right to access to higher education regardless of social class. The right of protection against exposure and starvation in hard times...Its about just establishing a bottom threshold. Not one of limiting the top. Basic protections for everyones children. Regardless of who their parents were, their social class, color, or means. The right even makes their arguments pretending the platform of most leftists is full blown Soviet or Maoist style communism (aka full blown state capitalism). Its a joke. I like and prefer to make more money than the average person myself. If my periods of success mean I must pay a little more, than so be it. I have no issues with helping to subsidize the healthcare of complete strangers...or with paying taxes to help buy school lunches when I dont have any school aged kids...or helping to fund educational grants for other people...Its part of what being in a decent society is all about. I am just glad I had the constitution and the conscious to be fully aware of such things before my son developed cancer and MS. Id be seriously conflicted now and feel like a piece of shit for having to change my mind for selfish reasons. Most things in life I had to learn the hard way. Glad that is one burden I was able to completely avoid. I was on the right side of history before it happened in my own lifetime. I firmly knew that before such a fate befell us. ALL people need to know such can and at some point in the coming generations most likely WILL happen to one of their descendents. Will they be able to say that they can look back at your legacy and say you supported their salvation from the depths of human degradation?...or did you not want them to have access to healthcare? Did you not want them to gain that higher education they were willing and motivated to achieve? Did you want them to eat when they went thru hard times? These are all our kids...and we all need to pull our heads out of our ass and stop only thinking about what is good for us as individuals and instead concentrate on what is good for us as a whole. 5 hours ago · Edited · Like · 3 Brandy Cox-Cuautle Amen.
