Donald Kraybill, U.S. 1978: The church is always caught in the tension between the traditional solutions of the past and the fermenting wine of an ever-new kingdom. Its a tension between form and love, structure and Gospel, organization and vision. The symbols of the past threaten to become idolatrous. The old rituals assert themselves as absolute. The Spirit of the Jesus who violated Sabbath rules, avoided purity rituals, ate with sinners, and purged the temple is Lord of our structures also. He judges them, critiques them, and makes them pliable for the new wine. [The Upside-Down Kingdom, Herald Press, p. 166]
