Donna Phillips Crenshaw, heres my 10 things you may not know about me... 1. When I was in the 7th grade a friend gave me a ride home on the handlebars of his bicycle. We were stopped by the police and given a ticket to appear in court for ‘riding double on a bicycle’. We went to court and were told we couldn’t ride our bicycles for one month. We also had to push our bicycles home from court. 2. When I attended a community college I submitted a poem that I had written to the school’s literary magazine and I won first place in their poetry contest and the poem was published in their magazine. The next year I wrote a second poem, submitted it and won first place again. 3. I have lived in Indiana, Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Georgia. 4. I moved to Daytona Beach, Florida when I was 21 years old and got a job selling pots and pans door to door. After being an unsuccessful pots and pans salesman I started driving a cab. I had only lived in Daytona for one week. 5. When I was a senior in high school, I was coaxed in to running naked through McDonald’s. Classmates gathered up about $75 for my effort. We had a big plan: I would lay on the floorboard of a car, run in one side door, through the lobby, and out the opposite side and in to a waiting van. Word had gotten out that someone was going to streak McDonald’s and the night of the attempt McDonald’s was packed. Traffic cops were there directing traffic because there were so many people there. There were police with police dogs waiting just outside the doors to nab any streaker that might be coming by. We pulled in to the McDonald’s parking and it was so crowded and with the police and all of the attention there was no way I was going to run through there naked. We parked outback and went in. I was wearing a long army coat, gym trunks, and tennis shoes. When we entered the place erupted and everyone was cheering and it was a madhouse. The cops finally threw us all out. So, I never streaked McDonald’s. But I did keep the money. 6. From the time I was about four of five years old until I was thirteen I lived across the street from an elementary school. The playground for the school contained the baseball diamonds where the high school and city leagues played their games. I played baseball there with my friends for years and made a lot of great friendships. I still see and am in contact with the friends I made at Lincoln Field. We played baseball, football, and basketball as the season dictated. I played city league baseball for seven years. I played every position but first base. 7. My first car I ever owned was a four door, black with red leather interior, 1964 Mercedes Benz 220S. I bought it for $500 in 1976. I drove it until I ran it out of oil and blew the engine. I sold it and bought a Fender Telecaster with the money. I still have the guitar. I probably would not have the car now had I not ran it out of oil so I guess I did the right thing. 8. When I was a senior in high school I was a member of the school chess team. We went to a state tournament in Indianapolis. I think the tournament was at the high school, Arsenal Tech. We came in 49th out of 51 teams. 9. When I was a junior in high school, I took the SAT test. The test was the morning after I had played my first gig on bass at a French Club party at Bennett High School. I scored down in the hillbilly range on the English portion of the test but I score in the 99th percentile nationally on the math portion. 10. I quit Ball State University after one semester to work at A&W root beer stand and made $1.00 an hour.
