Dons Comment On FG/ASUU Negotiation - Lets Hear Yours Boney London As this strike lingers, it becomes obvious that the ASUU’s strike is politically motivated. The real Professors have left the shores of Nigeria and what we have now are nothing but beer drinkers and skirt chasers in the name of Professors and lecturers. A true or Professor will be eager to lecture and impact knowledge. The reason for negotiation is to come down right in the middle. Nobody gets what he wants immediately, you get a little here and there, until your needs are met. However knuckle heads have taken over hence the standard of education in Nigeria has dropped to zero. What a waste! Engr. Olatunji Samuel ASUU is becoming greedy in their demands. ASUU wanted millions as pay. Let them go and work in the private sector if they want fat pay. I once worked as a lecturer during Abacha’s rule and I quited because the pay was poor. no matter the amount given to ASUU, some top University administrators will still embezzle all the funds and we shall never see any improvement. Some of them will simply feed fat from such funds. We have seen some Deans and Head of departments embezzling University funds. Even the Bursars do embezzle. These are not new to those who are conversant the University system. I am a Mechanical Engineer and I decided to move to the private sector to make fat pay. I will advice any lecturer who feels the pay is poor to quit. Unfortunately, most of these so called lecturers are already very lazy. How many times do some of them lecture in a week, may be once or twice and they want fat pay. I am seeing greediness in their demands. Government can not place all the funds in Nigeria on education alone. There are infrastructures to be developed too. What about the health sector and others. Jonathan should stop the salary of all lecturers the way Abacha did then. Hunger will force many of them back to the classroom. Abacha did that to us then and we all ran back to the classroom. Infact some used their car to do taxi during Abacha time when they got hungry. Jonathan should be bold enough to take drastic action against these lecturers who are bent in destroying the future of young Nigerians because of their greed RNC ASUU you have made your point very clearly, accept whatever FGN offers for now and keep the balance in view till next year 2014.. FGN can comfortably implement the ASUU/FGN agreement but it appears FGN is finding it difficult to do exactly that after four months of inaction. FGN is afraid of the negative effect if they agree to implement the agreement having lied on the oath that there is no money, when it clear to every one that the money is there. I said it from day one that this Fegge-led ASUU is an academic arm of opposition to GEJ’s government and I adviced the government to be careful and mindful in dealing with them. Now “professors” are demonstrating and protesting in Market squares to draw attention to their “plight”. It is really laughable. How can you take “all or none” attitude and mindset to the negotiating table when you have genuine grievances? Yet they call themselves intellectuals. Assuming the Universites are deregulated and these lecturers are paid according to their competence and output, many of them would not be worhty of half of their present pay. Some of them are lazy lousy leeches, I’m sorry to say! Ejike, New York As a diasporan, I feel sad at rascality and profligacy of politicians in Nigeria especially coming from the so called nyesom wike. While the strike is on he is busy with dirty politics and irrelevant sensational speeches with his so called GDI. Well, I will plead with ASUU to consider the plight of parents and students and take the much they have got. Nigeria is very rich that government can implement the previous agreement it reached with this August body but the politicians at all levels are busy stealing.
