Dont be afraid to use references. One of the biggest mistakes I made early on in my career was to neglect them and assume I could just make it all up in my head; without that visual library its really tough to fill in the gaps and make anything feel real! One way you can improve your library is by studying photos and then applying your imagination. That way youre learning about forms and palette, but at the same time stretching your imagination.
