Dont look if you cant handle reality...BEAR League rescued this - TopicsExpress

Dont look if you cant handle reality...BEAR League rescued this little bear cub two years ago near Alpine Meadows after her mother was illegally killed by a houndsman from Utah (thankfully, that was the last year hounding was legal in CA) We brought her to our sister organization, LTWC, where she was tagged with a temporary red number and cared for until spring, 2013, when she was released many miles north of Tahoe. As it turns out, her red baby tag was not removed upon release, as is the usual CA DFW protocol (because Nevada uses red) so when she was hit and killed on the road along the West Shore on Saturday (second photo) we assumed she was from Nevada (bears do not understand state lines and travel back and forth). We are sharing this tragic story with hope that just a few motorists will think about these photos while driving in Bear Country. Historically, more bears are killed on Tahoes roadways in October and November than any other time of year. The bears are foraging close to 20 hours each day to prepare for winter, creeks are drying up now so they must come to the Lake for water, human trash is an ever present attraction, people are driving along enjoying the fall colors and not watching for wildlife, and many of us are in too much of a hurry...... This is an extremely sad final chapter for an innocent little bear who deserved to live a long and happy life. Bless her precious and dear sweet heart. Please, remind everyone to watch out for wildlife, their lives depend on it.
