Dont often get into this type of thing, but thought it needed to be brought some attention; With the explosion of Stand Up Paddling it seems that everyone is getting in on the action. From board manufacturer start ups to lesson providers it is getting pretty confusing for the average consumer. This year seems to be the big boom for new lesson and touring companies to open their doors to clients. What isnt happening is the safety for the consumer. I have done quite a bit of travelling this season and taught a number of new instructors, only to discover that many new businesses out there have barely certified instructors, if they are certified at all, and a number of them are not even bothering with the proper insurance to protect their clients. Most personal trainers and Yoga teachers are not aware that the insurance they use on land does not provide any coverage on water. For someone looking to try an intro to stand up paddle lesson, or any other SUP class for that matter, do yourself a favour and ask the company or instructor you are booked with these questions first; 1. Are you a certified SUP instructor 2. Who are you certified with and can you provide proof 3. Who is your insurance provider, what is your coverage, and can you provide proof Im going to display all qualifications and coverage so my clients can rest assured that Northern SUP provides top quality instruction as well as a safe and fun experience.
