Dont underestimate your primitive, organismic instinct to preserve life--the will to survive. This instinct of the flesh, which is the source of all carnal behavior, is diametrically opposed to your spirits desire to trust God (cf. Matt. 26:41, Rom. 8:7, and Gal. 5:17). When we fail to realize how much this instinct rules over our subscious mind, we will continually find ourselves compromising our obedience to Gods word! When we subsciously trust our will to survive more than God, we tend to bend the truth of Gods Word (as if the Truth can be bent!) and practice selective obedience--obeying some parts of Scripture and actively ignoring the rest. Now, with this in mind and the fact that we Americans are born and bred to survive at all cost, it is no surprise that we are plagued by lukewarmness and spiritual impotence. We simply do not trust God Almighty to work all things together for the good. We say we do, but our words and actions prove otherwise. Yes, we must be financially responsible in this life, but we must stop clinging to this world--if we ever truly want to follow Christ (cf. Matt. 16:24). Only the Holy Spirit can birth and maintain genuine trust in the Savior! May we all truly trust Christ Jesus so that His perfect will is accomplished in and through us!
