Dont you just hate it when.......... So I priced up a beast of a conifer hedge the other week. 35-40ft tall, 250-300ft long, she asked me to have a quick climb while I was there to get her kids toy helicopter out. I got up the top and was pleasantly surprised to find the the hedge had been cut before (some nice stubs to stand on, it was only about 6 ft wide, and that she only wanted 6ft of the top).....thought it would be a nice days work, .......had done about half the hedge today, hardly used a saw, did most with silky and secateurs....and then suddenly got to a patch where it got four times as wide, and the back 3/4 were 15ft-20ft stems....the people who had cut it a few years previous had only cut the front 1/4 totally leaving the back grrrrr! (On the second half ) Pretty much filled the truck up, and I didnt get down from the hedge till 2pm! (And then had clearing up because my groundie couldnt keep up) So much for that nice easy days work. Aint it always the same, if there was ever a type of tree to catch a cold on as my boss use to say, its conifers. And another dont you just hate: Bloody silky saw falling out of the holster when youre up a dense hedge and you cant find the feckin thing, its hasnt fallen to the bottom, its not at the top, its hung up some where about half way, five trees back where you didnt notice it had fallen out! Actually, one more.....your prusik knot and rope getting totally jammed up with conifer sap, so you have to constantly re-dress it to try and stop it jamming and trying not to swear as it wont loosen just as you are in the most uncomfortable torturess position crossing from one stem to the next..... Im guessing this sort of thing has been done a million times before, but Im sure we all have have some aghh moments (tree related) that we can relate to, and perhaps let off some steam about? :)
