Don’s Daily Parable-Go Ahead…Make My Day-11/1/2013 Is there anyone in the world who hasn’t heard that expression? There are probably not too many people who would not be able to tell you what movie that came from and who said it. Yes, the infamous East Clintwood..er sorry…Clint Eastwood. As a side note, I love switching people’s names around. I guess I’m dyslexic or something. Back in 1984 and 1985, Pat and I went to Israel with a group led by Bro. Steel. We were in the town of Tiberias and we were walking down the street past this outdoor café. They had a couple of televisions set up outside so that people could watch them while they dined. As we walked by, we heard this familiar sound coming out of those televisions. They were showing “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”. To me, that was the last place I would expect to hear the music and some dialogue from that movie. It was really quite funny. At another stop in Jericho, there was a small grocery store. We went inside and were glad to see a Coca Cola sign. What surprised us, though, was a velvet painting of Elvis upon one of the walls in the store. You never know. When you hear that phrase, spoken by Clint, you always think of him giving someone an ultimatum. He would love to pull that .357 out and give them a little ‘sumpin-sumpin’. What I think of, however, when I hear that phrase, is that someone is going to either give me something nice or say something nice to me that will make my day. I have given someone a compliment before and that is the way that they responded, “You made my day”. Isn’t that a good feeling to know that you helped someone feel better, or brought hope to them? The good thing is that it doesn’t have to cost you a dime. People sometimes just need to know that either what they do matters or that they matter in this world. In this day of economic turmoil, worries about health insurance, and family problems, any little thing you can do or say can make a difference in how their day goes. Just think about it, if you will, about the times when your day is just in the dirt. People may have been rude to you, or given credit to someone else for the good job that you did. Then, out of the blue, someone comes in and gives you a compliment on your clothes, or tells you to have a good day. As Christians, we can have a huge ministry if we listen to the Holy Spirit and be sensitive to the people around us. Wouldn’t that be a great feeling to know that you had an effect on someone that might change their life? You read about it all the time where someone takes their own life because there’s just no hope. When you give them a smile, they may think, “Maybe this life is worth living”. That’s pretty awesome, isn’t it? So, go ahead…make my day. God bless you.
