Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu has this afternoon offered her deepest sympathy to the family and friends of a teenager killed off Cape Tribulation this afternoon by a shark. “This is a terrible time for our entire community and it is important we rally around the family and friends of the young victim who lived locally and give them whatever support they need,” Mayor Leu said. “We’re a very close-knit community and this will affect everyone in some way as we try to comprehend this tragedy. “One of our own has been tragically killed just doing what we all do and that is to get out and enjoy the Great Barrier Reef – it’s heartbreaking to lose a young person about to enter the prime of his life in such terrible circumstances. “On behalf of Council and all our staff, I offer the young man’s family and friends my deepest sympathies and extend our hearts to them with any support we can provide.”
