Down Syndrome fact: 40-50% of babies born with Down Syndrome will have a congenital heart defect & need surgical repair. Today marks Annas 4yr. anniversary post-op open heart surgery. One of the scariest & stressful days for our family. Even being surrounded by loved ones it was still nerve racking. We had to hand over our sweet girl & to trust the surgeon to skillfully fix her heart. There was no other option....without the surgery her little heart would eventually fail. She made it thru with a tiny setback that kept us in the hospital for two weeks but has since thrived & is doing wonderfully. I will always be grateful to Dr. Mitchell & the fabulous staff at Childrens Hospital in Milwaukee. :)
