Dr. Alicia Zalka is a native of Long Island, NY. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston University and graduated with honors from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in 1991. She completed her medical internship at Yale and her residency in dermatology at the University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial Hospital where she served as Chief Resident. She also studied abroad in Vienna and trained with a Mohs surgeon in LA. Dr. Zalka became board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 1996. Dr. Zalka specializes in but is not limited to the treatment of acne, skin cancer, cosmetic treatments, such as Botox, Injectables, leg vein treatments (sclerotherapy) and is specially trained in the use of lasers for hair removal and for treatment of blood vessels and rosacea. In 2012 Dr. Zalka launched Surface Deep because she saw a rapidly growing need for a bias-free voice of experience in education and guiding consumers about caring for their skin. With the onslaught of products and procedures aimed at “maintaining youth” and designed to profit from consumer obsession about looking great, Dr. Zalka believes that the public is frequently left confused and misguided about the very basics of skin care and how to navigate the growing advances in skin technology.
