Dr Jalal buried amid tearful eyes Hundreds participate in last rites Renowned cardiologist Dr Jalal who passed away on Saturday at AIIMS in New Delhi was buried amid the presence of hundreds of people at his ancestral grave yard located in South Kashmir’s Pampore town. Hundreds of people participated in his funeral procession. Dr Jalal was a protected person who was shot along with his two personal security guards by some unidentified person but the state police claimed that militants shot Jalal. The two guards later succumbed to their injuries leaving Dr Jalal critically wounded. He was rushed to SKIMS where he was operated upon and later on shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi. Dr Jalal had lost his vision in the attack. Dr Jalal-ud-Din served as director SKIMS from 2005 till 2007. Earlier, the body of Dr Jalal was flown from New Delhi to Srinagar. The body was taken to his home town amid tight security. Hundreds of people including mainstream leaders and separatists had already reached Pampore to participate in his last rites. Prominent amoung them was form Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani, Tehreek-i-Hurriyat spokesperson Dr G.M.Ganai, Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and MLA Pampore Zahoor Ahmed Mir. Leading doctors from Valley too participated in his last rites. Soon after the funeral procession, Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik said that the death of Jalal is a great loss to the State especially for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Such doctors can’t be found everywhere and I am deeply shocked over his death,” Malik said.
