Dr Joyce Banda would like to share this message with the people of Malawi: I have learned with great shock about the passing of Mrs Ruth Tembo or Aunt Ruth as we fondly called her. After going through the shock of the news of her passing last night, I woke up this morning thinking that what I want to do is to celebrate her life and to thank God for the precious gift Aunt Ruth was to her immediate family, the entire Tembo and Kadzamira families, to the Malawi Congress Party and to our Nation as a whole. I want to thank God for the impact she had on my life. The lessons I drew from her life: especially as a wife, as a mother and as a daughter-in-law. Always loving, always giving, always smiling and always praying. In 1983 she said to me Joyce remember that the best gift you can give to your children is to love their father. Not only did I hear her but I also watched her live these wise words. She stood by her husband and her entire family through thick and thin. Richard and I would like Hon. JZU Tembo and the family, to know that we are with you in prayer and in spirit at this difficult time. We pray that God should comfort you as you mourn the death of your dear wife, mother and grandmother. May her soul rest in everlasting peace.
