Dr Khalif Abdinasir, a community servant and a true believer of PanNorthernism according to his Twitter handle @DrKhalifNasser posted 10 things why the two clans are fighting and how the government can help to restore peace in the area. 1. What is happening in Wajir and Mandera are reinforced by historical stereotypes believed by both the Degodia and Garre. 2.Theres inherent perception that Garre own Mandera while the Degodia own Wajir and hence exclusivity expected. 3.The Garre believe that Degodia are expansionists and would use their numerical strength in Ethiopia to expand to Mandera. 4.Since 2007 when Abdikadir (Mohammed) won Mandera Central seat by beating a divided Garre, the Garres have since strengthened their unit. 5.The 2013 elections have exposed the intent of the Garre unity to exclude the Degodia from the Mandera politics. 6.The Boundaries commission demarcated six constituencies (twice the original). The tension that preceded elections in Mandera North said it all. 7.Degodia may feel excluded but they lost Mandera North seat partly because the Masare (a Degodia sub clan) allegedly ferried votes to Wajir. 8The current Wajir clashes started when a road construction project in Wajir extended to Mandera and the Garre invoked expansionist fear. 9.The politics of Garre and others in Mandera is capitalistic while the Degodia is more of socialist. No wonder a road construction ignited attacks. 10.Finally, Wajir Clashes like all other clan clashes are immune to religious intervention. Religion is just a means to these people
