Dr. Nira Stone We are deeply saddened to report the death of our dear colleague, Dr. Nira Stone, on June 26, 2013. Dr. Stone was a lecturer in the Department of Art History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where she specialized in Armenian and Eastern Christian Art. She was a pioneer in the field of Armenian Art, writing an important monograph on the Kaffa Lives of the Desert Fathers, the earliest known fully illuminated copy of that text. The work traced hitherto unknown artistic and intellectual trends among the Armenian communities in the Crimea. In addition to several articles on studies of manuscripts and the relationship between art and texts, she also recently wrote, jointly with her husband, Prof. Michael Stone, a work entitled, The Armenians, Art, Culture and Religion. Dr. Nira Stone will not only be missed for her contributions to scholarship, but also for the warmth and kindness with which she welcomed so many Armenologists and other scholars to her home in Jerusalem.
