Dr. Sanford F. Bennett, having served in the Civil War, returned - TopicsExpress

Dr. Sanford F. Bennett, having served in the Civil War, returned to his home in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, to practice medicine. One day Joseph Webster, a close friend, visited him. Instead of chatting with Bennett he went over by the stove and sat alone. It was obvious that Webster had problems and was worried. After a time Webster looked up and said, “It will be all right by and by. Those words struck Bennett’s mind forcefully, and he began to write: “There’s a land that is fairer than day---and by faith we can see it afar---for the Father waits over the way---to prepare us a dwelling place there.” Webster saw the doctor writing, so he got up and looked over his shoulder. Before long his despair left him and he entered right into the writing of a song. Being a musician Webster almost unconsciously began humming a tune we know today as the familiar song, “Sweet By and By.” The Bible uses several terms that fit into this definition of a “fair land”. The words that Jesus spoke in John 14:2 promise us, “I go to prepare a PLACE for you.” Heaven is considered the everlasting KINGDOM of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 2 Peter 1:11. It is called a better COUNTRY in Hebrews 11:14 and a “CITY which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God” in Hebrews 11:10. It’s a divine PARADISE for serenity in Luke 23:43 and in Revelations 2:7. And, of course, Heaven is the Father’s HOUSE for everlasting love and security, “In my Father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2) To the authors Bennett and Webster, Heaven is “the land that is fairer than day.” Have you made plans to spend eternity in that fair land? Do you want to know for sure that you have a heavenly home? Then say this prayer with faith in your mind and heart, “Lord Jesus I believe you shed your blood and you died and rose again for me. I am so sorry for my mistakes and trying to run my own life. I ask you to come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. I thank you that you are making a heavenly home for me.” You are now in the kingdom of God. It is up to you to make daily choices to follow Him. He has left all the instructions in the Bible. Believe me, it is an exciting life. And when it is over you will be in your Heavenly home with Jesus—forever.
