Dr Suzanne Lachmann says Feeling transparent, others can see - TopicsExpress

Dr Suzanne Lachmann says Feeling transparent, others can see through you, or into you, occurs as a result of #trauma. Why? Because trauma shakes you to the core, and shatters your identity into fragments. When you feel shattered, you dont feel unified, which leaves you raw, vulnerable, and full of empty spaces that might have once been filled, much earlier in your life. These are the empty spaces that make you feel transparent. These next several days are a delicate and vulnerable time. The holidays can be destabilizing, when youve already been overwhelmed and vulnerable by the earlier struggles youve had to endure. as it is. There are previously-formed feelings and reactions youve had to your trauma that may get triggered, because of anxiety producing, challenging, family/friend/solo/holiday dynamics that may people have to deal with, that feels far more threatening, than pleasurable. If this is you, youre not alone in feeling transparent, and in experiencing the shame and dread that inevitably accompany it. Honor that this is an especially vulnerable time of year, even more so when youre around people who trigger you. Know that youre not alone. Experiencing trauma in your life can leave you feeling displaced and unsafe, but does not make you transparent, its a feeling, not a fact. The the more comfortable you feel in your own skin, the less vulnerable youll feel, and therefore, the less transparent. Remember that your thoughts and feelings stay on the inside of you, they are not exposed to the outside world, even when it feels like they are. They remains safely yours. Give only of yourself what you feel comfortable giving this holiday season. Honor your limits. Take care of you.
