Dr. Wentz at the Women in Science event at the Orlando Science Center. This skull of a giant beaver represents one of many large animals, or megafauna, that Native Americans encountered when they first ventured into Florida over 10,000 years ago. These large species have since gone extinct, most likely through over-hunting and environmental change. Heres a great article on the impact these extinctions had on their surrounding landscapes.
