Drawing & painting contest to mark ‘Disaster Risk Reduction Day’ on Oct. 8 Port Blair, Sept. 28 The Disaster Risk Reduction day will be observed on Oct 8, 2014 by National Institute of Disaster Management (Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI), New Delhi at national level for creating awareness and also encourage people and Government to participate in building more resilient communities and nations. The day will be simultaneously observed by this Union Territory on Oct 8 by the Directorate of Disaster Management here with a drawing & painting competition for the students in two groups of Class (VI to X) and Class (XI to XII) of various schools in South Andaman on the topic ‘home safety and local preparedness for disaster risk reduction’ at its premises at Link Road, at 10 am. Prizes will be distributed to the winners at 4 pm. The Principals of schools in South Andaman have been requested to nominate 2 students for each group for the said competition. The participants need to reach Directorate of Disaster Management before 9.30 am must bring their own drawing materials for the competition. The drawing sheet will be provided by the organizers, a communication said.
