Drives me crazy - When a business service providers outgoing voicemail message says shell call me back at her earliest convenience. Although thats probably the case - shell call me when she feels like it, since its not real high on her list - its not great customer relations to tell that to a client. If what you mean is Ill call you back at my FIRST OPPORTUNITY, then say so. I suspect this misspeak comes from the habit of leaving messages asking the recipient of the message to call at his or her earliest convenience. Thats the business person being polite to a client, and accommodating to the customer. Arggggh. I think this is another symptom of the general its all about me thing, also evidenced by the phrase no problem. I hate no problem. Mostly I hate it when the teenager at the cashier stand or the drive-thru window says it after Ive thanked her. That is, of course, when she doesnt say thank you at all. Okay, Im giving her business, and money, and she responds with a phrase that says, in two words, Ive just done you a favor, taking your money and handing you a bag of fries in exchange, but instead of thanking you for keeping me employed, Im so arrogant that Ill stoop to letting you know that serving you hasnt been a problem for me. When did the bar get dropped from courtesy to mere civility anyway?
