Driving along the busy road past Cawthorne this evening, I spotted a bird on the ground right next to the curb but on the road looking very dazed and not moving-just staring at the ground. Id already gone past so drive along road, turned around turned and went back to park up and she was still there....I think Stuart thought Id lost the plot although he came to help as he loves little birdies too....it was an elderly blackbird and I went to pick her up so I could check her and move her out of the road but she took off and flew to the other side with one final effort where she landed in a wooded part with trees surrounding her. We crossed road to check as initially my fear was shed been hit by a car but we think she was just elderly and had given up on life. Whilst we couldnt reach her on the branch to which she was clinging, she looked at us a little dazed but grateful and Im happier and safe in the knowledge that if she passes away tonight it will be with dignity and privacy in a lovely wooded area rather than being hit by a car.
