Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa Having released eight more candidates yesterday, Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT), have brought in light a little more than half the total candidates they are required to pitch in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Chhatraman Chhetri An educationist for over two decades, Chhatraman Chhetri, will represent the party from Pataley-Tsirangtoe in Tsirang. He has decided to join politics to serve “in a different way” to the King, nation and people. “Through politics, I want to work towards creating a platform where every Bhutanese is reached, heard and no one is left behind,” the 46-year-old, who taught in various schools, apart from serving as vice principal and principal in private schools, said. JB Rai Pinning his confidence on his experience in administration, accounts, finance and leadership roles, JB Rai, 37, who served in various government organisations, is the party’s candidate from Phuentsholing constituency. He claims to have initiated innovative measures to help people while in the civil service. As a politician, he would like to focus on issues such as improving village life and rural-urban migration, apart from introducing effective resource planning, budgeting, and evaluation system. He said he joined Nyamrup since its ideology promoted an enabling environment for all to work as a team for a harmonious and richer democracy. Jigme Dorji Jigme Dorji, also with education background, is Nyamrup’s candidate for Dremetse-Ngatshang constituency in Mongar. The 43-year-old, who last served as the head of Changangkha MSS, describes himself as an “administrator and a passionate school leader.” His strength, Jigme Dorji said remained on working as a team and being able to compromise and listen to others. “I also have the confidence to suggest and implement new ideas myself.” “I have decided to join politics because I would like to contribute to the gift of democracy we received,” he said. Prakash Sharma With over 13 years of experience in the private sector, Prakash Sharma, 39, will represent Nyamrup from Lhamoizingkha-Trashiding constituency in Dagana. Prakash Sharma said having been a part of the chaotic urban life, he spent about three years in his village where he realised the importance to educate and create awareness about the essence of democracy among the rural population. “So I thought joining politics was the best way to help my people understand democracy better and also a good opportunity to serve my country which has given me a lot,” he said. Rinchen Namgay Singer, actor and a filmmaker, Rinchen Namgay, 39, from Wangduephodrang will contest from the Athang-Thedtsho constituency. “Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa promotes a kind of politics that respects alternate ideas, creativity and alternate views,” he said. “For a healthy democracy, we as a society should encourage different views and also learn to live harmoniously by accepting our differences,” he said. Sonam Dhendup As a banker for the past 11 years, Sonam Dhendup, 34, felt his service was benefitting just a section of the people. He then chose to join politics, through which he wanted to serve a wider range of people, especially those in his constituency, Menbi-Tsenkhar in Lhuentse. Having been born and lived in village, Sonam Dhendup said he gained first-hand experience of issues people confronted. “I joined Nyamrup because the party ideologies were parallel to my own ideologies,” he said. Tshewang Dorji He has watched up close the legislators work to frame laws and knows what it entails. During his 33 years of civil service, Tshewang Dorji, 57, had worked as the director of the National Assembly. In doing so, he had led the compilation of assembly agenda, edited resolutions, and knows inside of how the parliament works. “I decided to join politics and seize the moment to realise my long aspired dream to serve people of my constituency,” the candidate from Khamdang-Ramjar constituency in Trashiyangtse said. He has also been a royal tutor for ten years. Wangdi Gyeltshen A civil engineer by qualification, Wangdi Gyeltshen, 50, will represent the party from Deothang-Gomdar constituency in Samdrupjongkhar. Wangdi Gyeltshen resigned as the project director with works and human settlement ministry to join the party. “I joined Nyamrup because of the party’s believe in the spirit of working together,” he said. “Everything is done in consultation with each other while respecting individual’s ideas at the same time.” By Kinga Dema
