Due to gross flaws in the founders of our country many Americans today disregard our founding documents and the American design of government. While this is understandable, it is not justifiable. When you go through difficult times you do not discard the situation entirely. There is always good in bad and bad in good. We have to evaluate and re-evaluate each situation in order to keep the right things and get rid of the rest. Many of the principles incorportated into our design of government, like the 10th amendment, are essential to maintaining a broad framework where freedom and the ability to govern ourselves are valued. Try to imagine setting rules for every family in your neighborhood. These rules would include when to go to bed, when to eat, what to read and the toys you can play with. Each family functions differently but would suddenly have to conform to broad rules. This constricts the freedom of individual families. That is why each family is free to create their own rules related to their own situation. And so it is with individuals in this country and the states they live in. Each state has to maintain the ability to make most of their laws because each state is different. When you take away states rights or enact broad federal laws you remove the freedom and the ability of each state (individual) to govern themselves.
