Due to privacy in group, there is not share button. Adding this to my FB page, so you may share, if you like. Guilt Is Non-Productive Most of us have such feeling of guilt surrounding our illness. Ive finally found my way through this maze, yet know that some of you are still, right in the thick of it all. We have so much to deal with from being chronically ill. Guilt is not something we need to carry around on our shoulders. Weve been groomed from an early age that in order to be useful , were to be productive. Yet, what does productive mean ? With a chronic illness, getting up can be productive. Ive learned to appreciate the small victories. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I get a shower, feel up to doing breathing exercises, or help with dinner. Other days, I feel productive when Ive gotten out and went into the grocery store and made it through, without feeling as if the life has been drained from my body. I understand that many of you carry such guilt, due to not being able to do activities with your children. Being a good parent, isnt about taking children on trips. Doing simple things, at home, can give them life tools such as: learning patience, respect, and compassion. In order to survive chronic illness, we must shift our thinking concerning what productive now means to us. Guilt is an emotion which can only cause us more pain by carrying it with us. When it comes up, be kind to yourself. Notice what you are able to do . Pay close attention to the small, subtle, positive changes you can see. Take comfort in such things. Take that few minutes a day to do deep breathing, mediation or what works for you. This will help you to feel better and relieve some of the emotional pressure as well. Remember, you deserve to be treated as kind as you would treat someone else. This wont happen over night and will take practice. Its a retraining of the mind.
