Due to the inherently dangerous and seemingly cavalier nature with which Chris Kreider initiated contact with Derek Stepan during the 3rd period of last nights game against Pittsburgh, NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Stephane Quintal has suspended Kreider from 3 Lords-a-leaping, 2 turtle shoves and one Team USA reunion event until further notice. A $50,000 fine has also been imposed on the BC graduate in the form of a charitable donation to the University of Wisconsin Athletics program for what can only be described as a blatant disregard of oncoming New York traffic. Quintal felt the play most certainly warranted an immediate, in-person hearing, citing the obvious recklessness with which Kreider smacked Stepan in the gut, while also taking into consideration Dereks history of a broken jaw from last spring and that he is only 3 games removed from a 6-week rehab for a broken leg. To wit, Kreider issued the following statement: I definitely need to be more aware of how much bigger I am than Step. My apologies to Derek, his Mom and the rest of the Stepan family for any pain or emotional trauma I may have caused as a result of this hit. I also sincerely apologize to my teammates and to the entire Ranger organ-eye-zation for being part of such an unfortunate, embarrassing incident. In other words, as my ex-teammate Artem Anisimov would say: I sorry. Ranger management and the NHL Players Association fully support the leagues decision and no appeal is planned in the foreseeable future. As for the extent of Stepans injuries, you be the judge.... youtube/watch?v=dauH1HDzoeo#t=26
