Due to yesterdays high winds, we have a 96x 48 sheet of clear - TopicsExpress

Due to yesterdays high winds, we have a 96x 48 sheet of clear greenhouse grade plastic with some holes in it that were giving away. For those looking to make mini greenhouses it would be great as you can cut around the holes. Theres plenty of plastic there to work with. Youd need a truck with some tie downs to pick it up. Its in a bundle with a rope around it to keep it bundled. Well be around 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday 26th to help with loading/show you where it is. If youd like to find out more about why we have this plastic to give away read on! We had some excitement with the high winds on Sunday. Around 3 p.m. James called me to tell me that the south side of the plastic was detached from the roll up side and blowing in the wind. This creates a parachute and has the potential to rip the metal hoops right out of the ground which has potential to then rip holes in the other greenhouses next to that one. Dave and I immediately started driving over in crisis mode knowing we needed to get the plastic off before more damage happened. Meanwhile my neighbor Steve Reinhardt called to let me know about the plastic coming off the greenhouse. While I was talking to him another neighbor, Justin Killeen down the road was driving by and noticed the plastic and was leaving a message too. It was instrumental to have so many of you watching out for the farm. I cant thank you enough. If we hadnt of known a lot more damage could have happened. When we arrived the plastic was half way off the green house. The wind was blowing ferociously and the flapping plastic was gusting all over the place pulling on the greenhouse. The sound and power of this was incredible. Dave immediately started cutting the plastic starting from the north side of the greenhouse. James came out to help and Steve headed over. We were trying to get the plastic still blowing in the wind wind to stay in one place so it wouldnt fly off when Dave made the last cuts to release it from the greenhouse. The amount of power behind it was incredible. I couldnt even hold onto it. Once we got the plastic cleaned up, we were able to assess the damage. The south side south side roll up bar was completely damaged (heavy gauge metal) and needs to be replaced. I have that ordered and will cost us $210. We were lucky the bar didnt hit and damage the greenhouse next door. It also ripped our south side tube motor off which opens and closes the greenhouse side according to temperature we want in the greenhouse. This will cost us over $800 with shipping. The good news is that we were planning to replace the plastic this fall or early spring as soon as the weather was warm enough and the wind was calm enough and we could get enough help together to do it. The only problem now is that we were planning to take off the plastic and put the new piece on right away as weve seeded spinach in it. Now we may loose that crop as we dont know when the weather will be right for replacing the plastic before snow accumulation begins. If we dont get it on soon it will be lost and that will be about $2400 worth of spinach lost. Time will tell. We just have to wait and see what the weather brings!
