Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes: Hello Everyone, The club was represented at the Pierce Purcell qualifier at the weekend by a team Captained by Michael Kelly. Unfortunately there were just short of the mark required to qualify for the knock out stages. The Ladies Committee had a team playing in the Melia Trophy on Sunday and they beat Cruit Golf Club and go through to the next round. Well done to the ladies. Our mixed foursomes are playing in the qualifier this coming Sunday and we wish John and the team well. The men’s Donegal League team are playing Greencastle this Sunday and we wish Billy and the lads the best of luck. Dunfanaghy Ladies: It was another win for Ellen Druce on ladies day in Dunfanaghy. She will certainly be well practised in speech making and smiling for the local photographer as she collects her fourth prize in recent weeks. On Saturday, as the weather got progressively worse during the morning, all but a few hardy lady golfers took to the fairways. However, the weather conditions did not perturb , past lady captain Heather Hamilton (19) who amassed 35points including a two at the 17th in difficult wet and windy conditions. It would appear the investment in the new Ping driver is reaping rewards. Jill McCorkell also clenched a two at the 9th as the wind swept in from Killyahoey Beach. Congratulations to Team Captain, Maggie Foy and the Miele team who grasped victory from the jaws of defeat, by winning by one hole against a sporting but competitive team from Cruit. It was a exciting and nerve wrecking start to the Miele competition. Well done to all ladies, who give up their time to represent and support the Club. At the weekend is the LGU Peugeot Coronation Foursomes on Saturday followed by the GUI Irish Mixed Foursomes on Sunday.
