During a speech in Rhode Island yesterday, President Obama called for more taxpayer-spending on pre-school in order to make sure that women are full and equal participants in our economy and then he said, Sometimes, someone, usually mom, leaves the workplace to stay home with the kids, which then leaves her earning a lower wage for the rest of her life as a result. And that’s not a choice we want Americans to make. As you can imagine there has been a reaction to this statement by all of us who value the ability and importance of staying home with our young children. Here is an article from a mom about this and here is a quote from her article: Yes, I traded income for more time with my children. And I still do. And I’m the winner in this exchange, as are my children. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a family with much happiness but not much in the banking account. I don’t know. But I learned from my parents that there are things far more valuable than cash money.
