During an appearance in Weakley County Circuit Court, Bobby Pate, former McKenzie Chief of Police plead guilty to theft charges, which involved more than $10,000 but less than $60,000 making it a Class C Felony Theft. Pates plea was granted for judicial diversion and was sentenced to three years supervised probation as long as conditions that were set by court were followed or he could have to serve the full sentence. In the meantime, Kim Barker continues to serve as interim chief until Craig Moates will take over the department as chief of police on July 22nd. On Friday July 19th, at 9am, Christine D Radford of Paris is scheduled to appear in Carroll County General Sessions Court for a preliminary hearing from charges of arson in the December 2012 fire of Impressions gift store that completely destroyed the business and threatened buildings adjacent to it. Radford made comments to her daughter that implicated Radford and Spencer Underwood in starting the fire. On Thursday July 25th at 12 noon, there will be a reception in the downtown Veterans park for a meet and greet of the New Police Chief of McKenzie, Craig Moates. A hotdog lunch will be provided by the city. Moates will officially begin his duties on July 22nd. The announcement of Moates being the new chief was announced at a special called meeting on June 17th by Mayor Jill Holland. For students that are new to the McKenzie High school, registration will be on July 25th. New students to the area will need to bring a proof of residency, a copy of immunizations certificate, and paperwork from previous schools and a school transcript. Registration will be held from 8 am to 12 noon on July 25th.
